ISLSSL Payments Policy
The Executive Officers of ISLSSL have received some questions regarding the payment of the annual dues, in particular whether dues can be paid in cash. The Society does not accept payment in cash.In September 2015, at the Executive Committee Meeting in Cape Town during the World Congress, the treasurer and the auditor noted that the Society no longer accepts payment in cash. This policy is consistent with best financial accounting practice as it permits easy identification of the source of revenue. This policy also reflects the increased scrutiny by governments of cross- border financial transactions in part because of concerns about money laundering and tax evasion. The Executive Officers of the Society are no longer able to carry cash from one country to another for the purpose of making deposits at UBS in Geneva.
The Society maintains two bank accounts with Union Banque de Suisse (UBS), at the Geneva- ILO branch. One is a dollar (USD) account and one is a euro (EUR) account. Payments by national associations of the annual dues must be made to one of those UBS accounts.
Each national association is responsible for selecting the method for making this payment. Most national associations choose a bank-to-bank transfer, whereby the national association (the sender) directs a local bank to deposit a certain amount directly into the Society’s UBS account. The sending bank will charge the sender and the national association is responsible for paying that charge. If UBS charges the Society a fee for receipt of the funds and deposit into the Society’s account, the Society will assume that charge.
For any additional information on the bank details, please contact the ISLSSL Treasurer.
Use of the ISLSSL Logo Policy
The ISLSSL retains the right to control use of its name and logo in light of its stated purposes, in particular, Article 1.3 of the bylaws which state that “the aims of the Society are of a purely scientific character, independent of all considerations of a political, philosophical or religious nature”.
Use of the logo is granted solely for the purpose of indicating that the national association is affiliated with the International Society. It is appropriate to use the ISLSSL logo on the national association’s stationery and website. With regard to events that the national association may be supporting, but which are not events that the national association itself is organizing, the ISLSSL logo should not be used without the written permission of the Society’s Secretary General.
